Akiho recently graduated from the University of Michigan with a Masters in Biomedical Engineering. She has accepted an offer from Pfizer Japan to work in Tokyo.

We were so happy to host several of our alumni for a holiday lunch! Alumni Zhaoyang, Niancao, Xiaolong, and Shihui were able to catch-up with the newest lab members and share their post-graduate experiences.

Dr. Wang took the lab to lunch to celebrate Nan’s visit to Penn State. It was wonderful to hear about the beginning of Nan’s time as a post doctoral fellow at John Hopkins University!

We were so happy to host several of our alumni for a tour of our new lab and a reunion BBQ! Alumni Zhaoyang, Niancao, Xiaolong, and Shihui were able to meet many of the newest lab members and share their post-graduate experiences.

Dr. Wang hosted a cookout for the lab to celebrate a successful move into the new Chemical and Biomedical Engineering Building (CBEB). The new laboratory and office space looks amazing.

The National Science Foundation (NSF) awarded Dr. Wang a three-year grant.

Undergraduate researchers Akiho, David, and Brandon graduated tonight with a B.S. in Biomedical Engineering from the College of Engineering.

Brandon and David also earned Honors in Biomedical Engineering from the Schreyer Honors College.

Jame Coyne’s co-first-author manuscript, Psoriasis-associated impairment of CCL27/CCR10-derived regulation leads to IL-17A/IL-22-producing skin T cell over-activation, has been accepted for publication in The Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology (IF: 14.110). This project is in collaboration with Dr. Na Xiong of the UT Health San Antonio.

Nan will be heading to Johns Hopkins University to complete his postdoctoral research in Dr. Peter Searson’s lab.

We are excited to announce that our collaboration with Dr. Keefe Manning’s group has received a 2019 Innovative Project Award from the American Heart Association (AMA).

In this project, we will develop programmable materials for drug delivery and anti-thrombosis.

Congratulations to Maria Guevara on becoming a NSF GRFP recipient!

Maria is a former Wang lab member, briefly joining the lab for a summer REU experience in 2017.

​

Maria is currently a senior studying at the University of Florida. She will begin her PhD in Chemical Engineering at the University of Michigan in 2019.

Undergraduate researcher Emily Schwartz has accepted a 6-month co-op with Johnson & Johnson. She will be working in the Consumer R&D division.

Dr. Jinping Lai’s first-author manuscript,  Programmed Degradation of Hydrogels with a Double-Locked Domain, has been accepted for publication in Angewandte Chemie International Edition (IF: 12.102).

​

In this work, a programmable hydrogel has been developed with dual-factor molecular authentication. It holds great potential for temporospatial regulation of drug delivery, cell engineering and regenerative medicine.

Congratulations to James and Lidya on passing their comprehensive exams this week!

Dr. Wang was awarded a five-year $2 million grant from the National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases (NIAMS). This grant was awarded for a collaborative project with Dr. Na Xiong, professor of immunology in the College of Agricultural Science at Penn State. The focus of this grant is the development of semi-synthetic biomaterial wound dressings.

Undergraduate researcher David earned the Douglas and Regina Evans Award for Research. This honor is awarded annually to one student whose research toward an undergraduate honors thesis exceeds expectations in quality, depth, and breadth.
